(GOLDEN, CO – March 17, 2021) –

Foothills Animal Shelter has seen an increase in Parvo cases recently, currently treating their third Parvo-positive case from a local dog brought into the Shelter. Dogs exhibiting signs of diarrhea, vomiting, fever, weight loss, dehydration among other symptoms should see a vet immediately as Parvo is a highly contagious virus causing an infectious gastrointestinal illness in puppies and young dogs. Without treatment, it is potentially fatal.

Our staff takes these cases extremely seriously as this virus is easily spread by direct contact through the nose and mouth with infected feces or, when a dog encounters a contaminated person, object, or environment. Pets exposed to the virus are quarantined while staff administers treatment dressed in full PPE.

We are calling on our community to be stewards for their pets and properly vaccinate their dogs as to decrease the spread of Parvo. Foothills offers cost-effective Distemper/Parvo vaccinations for $20 at their weekly Vaccine Clinics. Our clinics are held every Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. offering a variety of vaccinations for both dogs and cats. For more information visit FoothillsAnimalShelter.org/Vaccinations.
